The Mission Ground Truth-21 program can be completed from any location with a connection to the internet. Classes perform stream and forest monitoring through point-quarter sampling, chemical tests, and biological surveys around their school. The data is collected in the field and then analyzed through an internet database that calculates the health of those ecosystems. The students work in teams to make conclusions based on their data to test a hypothesis. The data is saved for comparative studies between different locations, seasons, and years.
The website offers everything that both teachers and students need including aerial photographs, weather data, background information on all tests, pre-lesson and post-lesson activities, technical assistance, and updated information on local, regional, and global ecosystem health.
By completing the MGT:21 program through the internet, schools are able to participate in any location around the globe. Teachers are able to fit the program logistics around their curriculum and scheduling. Time and expenses that were once used to bus students to our site, can now be used in educating the students about their environment.
