The Mission Ground Truth:21 program will connect students around the world with our on-line database to complete scientific environmental testing that determines the health and diversity of stream and forest ecosystems. By partnering technology with real-life outdoor research, students will be inspired to explore their environment analytically with a better understanding of the relationships on our planet.
Students work as a team to:
-Develop a hypothesis using satellite and aerial photography images.
-Test the chemical and biological health of a stream
-Complete a point-quarter survey of the forest
-Analyze the bird population using both sight and sound
-Use problem-solving and critical thinking skills to reach a conclusion based on their research.
-Create solutions to environmental problems
Our website, http://www.missiongroundtruth.com, offers updated information on local, regional, and global ecosystem health. The participating schools share stream, forest, and weather data as part of a global community. Through the online database, students calculate the health of the stream and forest. Data is then saved for comparative studies between different locations, seasons, and years.
